ELKTON, MD. – Effective Wednesday, May 22, 2019, the URL for Cecil Maps (Cecil County’s online Geographic Information Systems application) is changing to https://cecilmaps.org.
Additionally, the URL for the online GIS “Maps and Apps” page is changing to https://cecilmaps.org/portal/.
“This change is part of the County’s efforts to move our physical GIS infrastructure to the cloud,” said David Black, Cecil County’s GIS Coordinator. “Instead of having physical servers located in a County facility, cloud computing enables us to leverage scalable, secure, and extremely cost effective computing infrastructure offered, in this case, by Google.”
Cecil Maps averages over 4,100 users per month, and the site allows users to query property ownership data, zoning information, infrastructure location, and much more. Additionally, the County’s enterprise level GIS provides the foundation used by various other software applications within County Government, including the 911 Center’s computer aided dispatch software, Land Use and Development Services’ permitting software , and various field data collection apps, amongst others.
