Ecumenical Summer Vespers Service to be held On the Green in North East, Friday 8/29, 6 PM
Pastor Mericle spoke with Cecil TV about an upcoming ecumenical prayer service on Friday, August 29th at 6 p.m. The service, known as Vespers, is a joint effort between Northeast Methodist, Saint Mary Anne’s, and Bethel Lutheran Churches. It will be held outdoors on the green near Chesapeake Bay Coffee, thanks to community support.
The event will feature music, choir performances, hymns for the public to sing, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Guests are also asked to bring canned goods to support the food pantries run by each participating church.
Pastor Mericle shared that he began at the church in 2010 as youth director and later became full-time pastor. He also highlighted other collaborative efforts among local churches, such as shared Ash Wednesday services, and community involvement like the church’s role in the Unicorn Quest, where they connected with families through crafts, preschool outreach, and giveaways.
The interview closed with an invitation to the community: “Three churches, one faith—many prayers and singing. Something you don’t want to miss.”
