We meet Thomas Lyons, local author of “A Bastard’s Mind”
In a candid conversation with Cecil TV host William Griffin, Thomas Lyons discusses his deeply personal book, A Bastard’s Mind: Thoughts on Anger, Survival, and Becoming Someone Worth Living With, now available on Amazon. Lyons describes the book as a raw and unfiltered reflection on what it means to appear functional on the outside while quietly battling exhaustion, anger, and self-doubt within.
Rather than positioning the book as traditional self-help, Lyons explains that it is written for people who have “been strong for a long time” and who live under constant pressure without fully understanding how to release it. Drawing from his own experiences with depression, financial hardship, bankruptcy, and self-criticism, he explores failure not as a final judgment, but as a necessary teacher.
Lyons credits personal coaching and deep self-examination as the catalyst for putting his thoughts on paper, ultimately realizing the process helped him confront long-held self-hatred and come to terms with who he is. He emphasizes that the book is meant for anyone navigating turmoil, whether they are at rock bottom, approaching it, or simply searching for clarity. His message is one of radical honesty, self-acceptance, and the first steps toward understanding and, ultimately, self-compassion.
