Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Is On It’s way to NYC

November 11th, 2021

A multitude gathered early Thursday morning in the sleepy north east corner of Cecil County
for the harvesting of the 79 foot tall norway spruce tree that’s been selected as this year’s Rockefeller Plaza christmas tree.

With the tree prepared and extensive rigging in place, workers made the cut that freed the tree from it’s earthly binds. The large crowd of onlookers watched as an enormous crane slowly moved the stately conifer to it’s flatbed tranport to New York City.

The selection of the local tree has become a point of pride for many people in Cecil County and is the first Rockeller Plaza christmas tree ever to come from Maryland. We had a chance to speak to property owners Devon and Julie Price.

Echoing the high spirits of the people who came to watch this event, County Councilman Al Miller had these remarks.

After the tree has been removed, the remainng stump, alongside it’s pint sized replacement became a curiousity and a picture taking opportunity. Nearby another small tree with big aspirations sat quietly in sun.
