CCPL Elkton Branch Renovation: We take a deep dive with CCPL Director Rachel Wright.

Cecil TV’s Trista Polo talks with Cecil County Public Library Executive Director Rachel Wright about the upcoming renovation and expansion of the Elkton Branch Library. The nearly 40-year-old facility will close on August 29 for an extensive project expected to take about 15 to 18 months, with reopening planned for early 2028.

Wright outlines plans for major building and infrastructure improvements, along with a dedicated teen area, eight new study and collaboration rooms, a makerspace, and a redesigned entrance aimed at improving pedestrian safety. The expansion and renovation were shaped in part by community input and the library’s experience with similar spaces at other branches.

During construction, the library will continue serving Elkton through a temporary pop-up location on Bridge Street, scheduled to open in mid-September. It will offer about 10,000 items, holds pickup, copying and printing, and assistance from library staff. Programs will also continue at community locations, including an after-school library club and children’s story times.

Throughout the interview, Wright emphasizes that the project is designed not simply to modernize the building, but to create a library that can continue adapting to the needs of the Elkton community for decades to come.
