Elkton Prepares for Memorial Day Parade and Busy Summer Season

As spring settles into Cecil County and warmer days begin to replace the chill of early April, Elkton is gearing up for a season of community events designed to bring residents downtown and celebrate the town’s continued growth.

During a recent Cecil TV interview, Elkton Alliance Executive Administrator Angelina Battaglia outlined a mix of upcoming activities and initiatives aimed at supporting local businesses, engaging families, and highlighting the town’s revitalization efforts.

The Elkton Alliance plays a central role in that mission, focusing on economic development, historic preservation, and community engagement. Battaglia noted that the organization continues to work behind the scenes to attract new businesses and keep downtown vibrant, with few vacant spaces remaining for long.

While one anticipated spring event will not take place this year, organizers say the overall calendar remains strong. The annual Cinco de Mayo celebration has been canceled for 2026 due to vendor shortages and ongoing staffing challenges affecting local businesses. Battaglia described the decision as difficult but necessary, emphasizing appreciation for the vendors and participants who have supported the event in the past. Plans are already in place for its return next year.

Looking ahead, attention now turns to one of Elkton’s signature traditions—the Memorial Day Parade, scheduled for May 25. The event, organized by the Elkton Alliance, stands out as the only Memorial Day parade in Cecil County and is open to participants and spectators from across the region. Registration is expected to open soon, and organizers encourage community groups, performers, and residents to take part in what is consistently a well-attended, family-friendly celebration.

All Elkton Alliance events are free to attend, reinforcing the organization’s goal of making downtown activities accessible and welcoming to everyone. Residents can also stay informed through the Alliance’s website, newsletter, and social media channels for updates, especially in the event of weather-related changes.

Beyond May, Elkton is already preparing for a busy summer season. The “Jump Into June” event on June 5 will kick off summer with activities geared toward children and families, including games, crafts, and entertainment. Later in the month, the popular National Food Truck Day celebration will return on June 28 after a successful debut last year, offering a wide variety of food options and drawing large crowds downtown.

With spring in full swing and summer just around the corner, Elkton officials say the focus remains on creating opportunities for residents to gather, support local businesses, and enjoy everything the town has to offer.
