Good morning from CCPL! This month, I am coming to you from the Teen Room at the Perryville Branch. This is a great space for teens to hang out, find some great books and do some fun activities.  Both Perryville and North East branches have teen rooms!

Big Things Happening at CCPL

Elkton Temporary Library – our temporary Pop-Up Library is now open at 228 South Bridge Street near Pat’s Pizza in Elkton.  At this location patrons can pick up books, place holds, copy/print/fax and have a librarian answer their questions!  Elkton Temporary Library hours are: Tue-Thu: 10am-6pm and Fri & Sat: 10am-5pm

Exploring Appalachia – Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and rich heritage of Appalachian mountain culture! Events will take place throughout the county, including the Mountain Traditions photography exhibit at the North East Branch Library.  Set against the breathtaking ancient landscape of the Allegheny Mountains, photographer Michael O. Snyder showcases portraits celebrating the people, traditions, and culture of West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.  This project is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and Arts Midwest.

Maryland STEM Festival – The Maryland STEM Festival is a month-long celebration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Programs will be held throughout October & November at CCPL for the STEM Festival.

Wildlife Detectives: Digging for Clues with Wildlife Adventures

October 8 | Rising Sun

Grab a magnifying glass and explore local wildlife! Follow clues like tracks, feathers, and bones to learn about animals that live nearby. Meet live animal ambassadors, then check out real furs, bones, and other cool nature items up close.

  

Fall Fest

October 10 | Perryville

It’s fall in Perryville! Join us for a touch-a-truck with large vehicles for kids to learn about, music, mini pumpkin decorating, and other fun activities with community partners and library staff.  This is a community friendly event for all ages. There will also be a From Seed to Cider program where the presenter will explain the science behind apple growth and reproduction, as well as a demonstration of pressing apples into cider.

LOAD Robotics: LEGO® Challenge

October 26 | Cecilton Community Center

As part of the Maryland STEM Festival, join the LOAD Robotics team for a hands-on LEGO® robotics adventure! Build and create with LEGO® robots while exploring the basics of robotics, engineering, and problem-solving.

October 7 | The Historical Society of Cecil County, 135 East Main Street, Elkton, MD

Hear the extraordinary, forgotten story of the Christiana Resistance, known as “the first shots of the Civil War,” from New York Times bestselling author Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz. Discover how a multiracial Pennsylvania community stood together to defend four fugitives from enslavement. Books will be available for purchase.

 Nature Documentary: River of Wings

October 27 | North East

We had such a great showing last month that we are providing another date to view this documentary.  Experience the remarkable world of the bald eagles along the Susquehanna River. Through breathtaking cinematography, River of Wings explores these iconic national symbols and the ecosystem that sustains one of the largest concentrations of wintering bald eagles in the eastern United States.

 Plant Communities and their Social Interactions
