One of Cecil County’s most anticipated spring traditions is set to return, bringing thousands of visitors, dozens of vendors, and a deeper mission that extends far beyond gardening.

During a recent Cecil TV interview, Jennifer Goldbach, Sponsorship Chair for the Saint Mary Anne’s Garden Market, shared details about this year’s event, which will take place May 1 and May 2 in North East. Now in its 26th year, the market continues to grow in both size and impact, drawing more than 6,000 visitors to town in past years and providing a boost to local businesses along the way.

While many attendees come for the wide selection of plants, crafts, and outdoor goods, organizers say the heart of the event lies in its community mission. Proceeds from the market support Saint Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church and its outreach efforts, including a food pantry that served more than 1,200 families and distributed over 7,000 bags of food last year. The church also supports recovery programs and community initiatives aimed at assisting those facing addiction and homelessness.

Goldbach emphasized that the market is an opportunity not only to shop, but also to better understand the role the church plays in supporting local residents. Visitors will have the chance to step inside the historic church, which dates back to 1743 and is among the oldest Episcopal churches in the country, offering a unique glimpse into the area’s history.

This year’s event will feature more than 85 vendors—an increase of over two dozen from last year—offering everything from plants and garden supplies to crafts, educational exhibits, and nonprofit information booths. New additions include vendors offering coffee and ice cream, adding to the event’s festive, family-friendly atmosphere.

Organizers say the event is designed to appeal to a wide audience, with activities for children, opportunities to learn from local organizations, and plenty of food options for visitors spending the day downtown. The market is free to attend and will be held rain or shine, with expanded public parking available nearby.

As spring planting season begins and warmer weather finally arrives, the Saint Mary Anne’s Garden Market offers a chance for the community to gather, support local causes, and celebrate a long-standing tradition rooted in both horticulture and helping neighbors.
