In this September 9 Cecil TV interview, Trista Polo talks with Perryville Library Branch Manager Naomi Copenhaver about a busy month of programs and special events across the Cecil County Public Library system. Highlights include the Maryland 9/11 Rolling Memorial, the Crab Crawl in North East, and the family-oriented Taste of Appalachia celebration featuring regional culture, music, activities and food.

Copenhaver also highlights programs for children and teens, including a Grandparents Day story time, a sprayed-edge book workshop, LEGO and egg-drop challenges, and “Paws and Relax,” which gives teens an opportunity to unwind with a therapy dog. She also discusses the library’s continuing services for Elkton-area teens while the Elkton Branch undergoes renovations.

Adult programs include a Perryville panel discussion reflecting on September 11, the Maryland Big Tree Program in Cecil County, and a screening of *River of Wings*, a documentary exploring the bald eagles of the Susquehanna River.

Big Things Happening at CCPL

Maryland’s 9/11 Rolling Memorial – The Hope and Peace Foundation presents the 9/11 Rolling Memorial, created to honor and remember the 69 Marylanders who lost their lives on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, as well as the 158 service members who have since made the ultimate sacrifice in the War on Terror.  The Rolling Memorial, as well as artifacts will be on public display at the North East Branch.

Crab Crawl – This Saturday from 11-4:30 the CCPL Friends Foundation is hosting our Annual Crab Crawl with downtown North East restaurants.  Sample appetizer crab dishes at 6 participating restaurants.  For more details visit: ccplfriendsfoundation.org

Taste of Appalachia – On Saturday September 19th at the North East Branch, immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and flavors of the Appalachian mountain culture. This event brings the traditions of that region to life through engaging activities, live performances, and food sampling the whole family can enjoy. This is an Exploring Appalachia program and was supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and Arts Midwest.

Our Elkton branch has closed for renovations but we are still present in the community for our teens!  Looking for a place to relax after school? To honor the 25th anniversary of 9/11, local officials will convene for a moderated discussion led by Mike Dixon to preserve the community’s unique history of leadership and public safety. Attendees are invited to hear these firsthand reflections and share their own memories of the day that fundamentally reshaped our nation’s security.

 Maryland Big Tree Program in Cecil County

September 15 | Chesapeake City

Learn the history of the Maryland Big Tree Program which finds, measures and registers the largest known tree species across the state, with a focus on trees in Cecil County.

 Nature Documentary: River of Wings

September 29 | North East

Experience the remarkable world of the bald eagles along the Susquehanna River. Through breathtaking cinematography, River of Wings explores these iconic national symbols and the ecosystem that sustains one of the largest concentrations of wintering bald eagles in the eastern United States.
